The Return of Panthan Press
Sorry that the Dateline Jasoom podcast has been on vacation. But the archive of episodes has been rebuilt, and I’ll soon start producing new ones.
They’ll probably appear monthly. Episode 50 is tentatively scheduled for April.
To recap, Panthan Press was founded by a Martian soldier of fortune who lost both legs and an arm in a battle with Warhoons. Using the "hunt-and-peck" method of typing, he began a
newspaper called The Barsoomian Blade.
It has become his planet's largest (and only) tabloid,
with bureaus across all of Mars, at the Earth's core, in Opar and Caspak, on Amtor, and everywhere in between here and the farthest star.
The Dateline Jasoom podcast, another Panthan Press production, is recorded in The Blade's Chicago bureau -- which is located in an alley
behind Kelly's Feed Store.
And now the web site is back. I may also blog
from time to time on various topics related to Edgar Rice Burroughs, science fiction,
TV and movies. The usual randomness of a blog.
The Chicago Muckers’
web site is back, too. That’s where you’ll find information
about our plans to host the 2010 Dum-Dum in Chicago. Feel free to register on the Mucker Message Board and offer suggestions on the plans for the convention. Or just
talk about ERB, the pulps, and science fiction. There’s live chat there, if anyone is
ever interested in that.
Guests of Honor at the 2010 Dum are George McWhorter, curator of the Burroughs collection at the University of Louisville, artist Tom Floyd, and Stephen Korshak, an
expert on J. Allen St. John and Frank Paul -- two great Burroughs illustrators. People who attend will also get a hardcover edition of The Mucker and The Return of the
Mucker, with color dustjacket by Floyd and profusely illustrated by many other professional and fan artists. This limited edition is spectacular.
